Here we have a really cool Scottish contemporary folk art inspired weathervane of a lion with a ball sat on a raised plinth created by the Edinburgh artist Ramsay Gillies. The work is comprised of painted sheet metal with a beautiful gold colouring and superb detailing to the lion. The plinth is solid wood. The piece is signed by the artist on the base plinth. About the ArtistRAMSAY GILLIES WAS BORN AND RAISED IN EDINBURGH AND ATTENDED EDINBURGH COLLEGE OF ART, STUDYING GRAPHIC DESIGN, LIFE DRAWING AND SCULPTURE. HE SPENT HIS WORKING YEARS AS A GRAPHIC DESIGNER IN SCOTLAND, BERMUDA, NEW YORK, BOSTON, LONDON, COMING HOME TO EDINBURGH IN THE MID SEVENTIES. HE RETURNED TO SCULPTURE AROUND FIVE YEARS AGO WITH A SIMPLE RESOLVE TO AVOID REPETITION AND KEEP IT QUIRKY.
